Dear Members,
I’m writing to tell you how the club is doing at the moment and how we are being affected by COVID.
We are doing a good job of getting kids and adults training at least once a week and there’s a lot going on with coaches, especially in our younger age groups. However, we can’t use our bar and hall to raise money like we normally would because of the restrictions. There are a few ‘codgers’, young an old that continue to come in despite the restrictions, but we are slowly losing money. Most of the club overheads still have to be paid even when there’s nothing but training going on.
We got the government subsidy back in March and we got rate relief from the council too, but we haven’t had anything since, so we are starting to use club reserves. I don’t want to make anyone’s life harder, but without people paying their memberships, the club will slowly fail. Membership is an important part of club income at this time and we need it to pay the bills. There are lots of ways you can pay, including instalments through the website, so please start paying as soon as you can. Anyone with difficulties can talk in confidence to me, Chris Knight (Membership Secretary) or Dusty Hare (Treasurer) to try to help.
I know we are all fed up with restrictions, no games and are missing proper socialising with our friends, but if we work hard at it we can get through this crisis and have a traditional Basildon party when it’s all over.
Thanks and let’s keep working together
All the best
Paul (Johno) Johnson, Club Chairman
